Playstation 4 to cost 40,000 Yen in Japan

While February 20th is set as the Playstation 4 release day, other bits of interesting information has been floating around in the meantime.

Two major Japenese publishers, Asahi Shimbun and Nekkei, have reported that the Playstation 4 will be released with a price tag of over 40,000 Yen (the equivalent to £270 or $400). This is lower than the original price for the Playstation 3, which was set at 50,000 Yen on release.

Asahi Shimbun also reported that the Playstation 4’s controller is going to retain the same shape as the Playstation 3, but will have a built-in touch-pad, and that the console will be available in the U.S and Japan before the end of the year. Exciting news for Playstation fans.

At the moment it’s probably best to take this with a pinch of salt until the Playstation press release on February 20th, but these reports are looking incredibly likely. If the price stays this low then it could end up stealing the new Xbox’s thunder this year.
