PlayStation 4 Now More Expensive in Canada

As time goes on we expect all technology to get cheaper, including newly released consoles and their accessories, this however is not the case currently in Canada where the price for a PlayStation 4 has received a suggested $50 increase as of March 15th.

At launch the PlayStation 4 had a suggested $399.99 retail price in the country, which has now been hicked up to $449.99. Certain PS4 accessories and software will also be seeing a price bump with the PS4 camera and DualShock 4 costing an extra $5 as well an increase in upcoming game prices.

Sony had this to say about the increase:

“The PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system delivers phenomenal play experiences that will shape the world of games for years to come and has quickly become the next gen console of choice with gamers in Canada. To respond to changes in the market environment, the price of PlayStation 4 will be revised from CAD $399.99 to $449.99 MSRP.”

We can only assume this is due to exchange rates, $399 Canadian is equal to $359 US, which could be seen as Canada getting $40 off the popular console. It could also be possible that Sony are trying to manage their limited stock, with the PS4 being out of stock at many large Canadian retailers since the end of February according to NowInStock.net.
