Happy New Year one and all! With the Mayans being wrong and 2013 set to go on as planned, there's potential for a whole host of amazing games this year. The staff at VGU got together to bring you this list of "Most Anticipated Games of 2013"!

The latest installment in the Bioshock franchise takes place in 1912 in the "floating city" called Columbia. It's already got both Luke and Lewis excited for it - check out why they can't wait:
Luke: "Bioshock Infinite will be the redefining game for the Bioshock Universe. From the depths of the sea to soaring in the skies, it will be interesting to see how Irrational Games can take such an iconic game, change the world massively and still keep the essence of what Bioshock really is."
Lewis: "After the last 2 in the critically acclaimed series, I'm really looking forward to seeing how Levine creates a new story outside of Rapture. I'm really anticipating the release, and you can only gorge on promo videos and screenshots for so long, haha!"
Bioshock Infinite will be released on PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 on 26th March, and you can check out the official website here.

Set 30 days after Emergence Day humanity has just gone to war with the Locust, the COG haven't yet learnt of the threat. Grubs pop out of the ground at every opportunity and are seemingly unstoppable, unlike anything humanity has faced before. I'm a bit of a Gears fangirl, so one that explains events before this is going to be great! Want to know why I chose it?
Sarah: "I've been a fan of the series from the beginning, and the story so far has made me laugh, made me cry and made my jaw go slack at moments. It's been a rollercoaster of fun and emotion, so why wouldn't I look forward to one set just after E-Day? You play as Baird and Cole, who happen to be 2 of my favourite characters, and there's also the added bonus of the Lancer - part chainsaw, part gun. There's nothing better for stress relief than sawing some grubs in half!"
Gears of War: Judgment is out for Xbox 360 on March 2013 so you can bet I'm counting down the days!

Inspired by the Fist of the North Star anime and manga, this beat 'em up will test your skills in combat even more than the previous one did! This was luckily the winner of a tie for Dom, who's getting pretty stoked as it gets closer to the release.
Dom: "After playing the demo at Comic Con last October I am stoked on this game! They have improved everything from the speed of the combat and overall gameplay to the roster of available characters and story arcs. This is looking to be a great game for its 25th Anniversary."
The old game got mixed reviews, but this sequel is already looking to be a lot better, and with just over a month before the release you can be sure to read lots more good things about it! If you want to know more, check out the official website.

Throughout the recent games Raiden has steadily become more of a badass than when we first saw him in Metal Gear Solid 2 (Yes, taking you right back there). This spin-off is set 4 years after the events of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and focuses on Raiden's fight against a self-proclaimed private military group involved in terrorist activities. It focuses on his swordfighting skills with you only weilding blades, but you are a ninja afterall. What ninja uses guns? Trishul is looking forward to the release of this game, and here's why:
Trishul: "When you bring together the insane action you had in baynetta together with arguably the most insane mind in the industry, the end product is no doubt going to be one that is absolutely incredible!"
I have to agree with him, this action-oriented game already looks amazing. It's all set for a February 22nd 2013 release for Playstation 3 and Xbox, and you can check out the official site here.

Everyone has that one game that they won't stop talking about right until the release, and for Will Persona 4 Arena is definitely that game. It may already be out in other parts of the world, but Will gives us a pretty good reasoning why he's excited for the European release:
Will: "While it may have already come out in every other territory other than the EU nearly 4 months ago, I still anticipate this sequel to my favorite game more than the actual remake for the PSVITA which comes out in February. With a fighting system done by the guys behind the BlazBlue series, Arc System Works, I look forward to throwing characters from both Persona 3 and 4 against each other. While there is still no hard date set for the game I am hopeful it comes out sooner rather than later so I can sink my teeth into the continuing story of those touched by the velvet room."
While there's not an official release date this year, we're all hopeful that it will be a 2013 Vita release and the sooner the better! If Will has managed to pique your curiosity, have a look at the Persona 4 Arena site.

With Skyrim out and doing well people are already talking about The Elder Scrolls Online - what will it be like, will it be like Skyrim? Ian Towers has been quite excited for this since the first announcment came out:
Towers: "As a massive skyrim fan i can't wait for the first official attempt at a multiplayer platform for the game in mmorpg form, it's gonna be exciting for sure!"
Short and to the point - check out the story plot straight from the Elder Scrolls Online site:
"It is a time of strife and unrest. Armies of revenants and dark spirits manifest in every corner of Tamriel. Winters grow colder and crops fail. Mystics are plagued by nightmares and portents of doom. Four years ago, in 2E 578, an arcane explosion of energy in the Imperial City set off mystical aftershocks that swept across Nirn. Mages died or went mad. Supernatural abominations from the plane of Oblivion, the Daedra, appeared in greater numbers than ever before. The constellation of the Serpent grew so large that it dominated the night sky."
With no release date other than 2013 yet, the Beta sign-ups should be hopefully a few months before the release! Keep checking out the official site for announcements!

Watch Dogs is definitely one the gaming community are talking about lots. Jonathan nominated this as his game to watch this year:
Jonathan: "Watch Dogs will be one of the best games of this year. A new outlook to the way to modern open world action games, developed by Ubisoft which are doing great this past year. This game is gonna be the skyrim of 2013. The style, the gameplay, new design outlook look polished and gonna be a wonderful game."
Claiming it will be the Skyrim of 2013 is a bit thing, and we're all just hoping it can live up to people's expectations! In case you didn't know, Watch Dogs centres around the player's abilities of hacking and surveillance, either to obtain or control information or to destroy the controlled devices at specific times. The E3 demo looks pretty good, and you can find the official site here. It is scheduled for a 2013 release for PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, and keep checking back at VGU for any updates that come along!

Last but definitely not least we have Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. The game appears as a sequel to Final Fantasy XIII-2, concluding the story arc, and the concept for the game design is "world driven", so the world will always be moving and things will always be happening. Lightning is the only playable character with Hope giving guidance, and once again she's battling to save the world from destruction!
Bradley: "While I am excited for a few games this year I am looking forward to seeing what Square-Enix do with this next title in the Final Fantasy series which has always been one of my favourite series of video games!"
Square Enix have made some pretty amazing games so far, and I definitely have faith in them for this one! Have a look at the official site. Again this one doesn't have a release date other than 2013, but it is coming to Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 so there's still time to make sure you have the right console!
And there you have it folks - the VGU "Most Anticipated Games of 2013". There are set to be loads more games that we're looking forward to, but these have a special place in our hearts and wallets. What do you think, is there a game you're particularly looking forward to that we haven't mentioned? Leave us a comment below!
