GameStick Kickstarter closes at 648% funded

Perhaps one of the most successful technology Kickstarter projects to date has now ended, with the GameStick closing at $648k, a grand total of 648% funding!

Anthony Johnson, CMO of PlayJam (the creators of the device) said "we are overwhelmed, excited, grateful, thrilled and everything in between. The campaign has been an incredible success with support from thousands of backers worldwide but this is just the beginning. The feedback from the Kickstarter community has bee invaulable in shaping the final product and we will continue to seek input from those that supported us to ensure continued innovation ahead of the global retail launch."

The campaign started April 2013 to fund the development of a new generation of games console. The GameStick is a small yet powerful and dedicated gaming console that plugs straight into your TV via the HDMI slot and comes with a fully featured Bluetooth controller. The GameStick game store will be powered by PlayJam's built-for-TV technology which will enable users to browse, download content and interact with the wider GameStick community.

Those who missed the Kickstarter campaign can pre-order one of the consoles and have a look at any other information you may need on the www.gamestick.tv. You can also apply for an SDK (development kit).

The GameStick has been hailed as "The Most Portable TV games Console Ever Created" and is thought to be the console that will disrupt the games industry. What do you guys think, do you agree? Let us know in the comments.

I've played games for pretty much as long as I can remember, hoping to one day turn my love into a career. I'm in my final Masters year of University while writing for VGU, I love the design and production management type stuff and I will happily try any game at least once!
