The First Episode of Anita Sarkeesian's "Tropes Vs. Women" Has Gone Live

Here it is. After nine months since the kickstarter's success the first episode is finally live on the internet. This episode focuses on the trope of damsel's in distress, citing sources such as Starfox, Princess Zelda and of course Princess Peach. Hopefully it won't be another nine months until Part 2 of the damsel in distress trope which will cover more modern games.

The video goes into deep detail on the history of the idea of the damsel in distress, going into the history of film and how it all came to be in video games and in what forms. It has been a long journey from black and white shorts to a princess in another castle. Ms Sarkessian has even made a tumblr page devoted to examples of this trope through gaming.

Comments for the youtube video have been disabled, probably to avoid another backlash.

Amateur narratologist, or perhaps just a gamer who focuses too much on the story. I love games and the experiences they afford. I then enjoy ripping them apart for every error and mistake they make while trying to entertain me.

Women aren't allowed to be battered but the countless male goons in the game are?

Sexist.

It's been proven that this woman isn't a gamer. She is ill-suited to deal with the subject matter and is more interested in fulfilling an agenda. She isn't interested in a debate and is a coward who blocks comments and differing points of view.

SHE is the one referring to the female characters as objects, not the game. It appears to have never crossed her mind that they're love interests and that the hero is out to rescue her out of genuine care for her safety, not because she's a "possession".

Anita strikes me as someone who is incapable or unwilling to understand love, and y'know what? It doesn't surprise me. With such militant misandrist points of view, she'd scare any intelligent self-respecting man away.
