Monilth Softs Bold New Approach to Games

In a recent interview, the team’s executive developer, Hirohide Sugira and team player Michihiko Inaba had this to say about their upcoming Wii U project:

Inaba: “I’d like to make an HD game that will wow the players. I want to show that Japan can still keep up with the USA when it comes next gen technology. Our goal is to become something like the developers of the Fallout series, Bethesda Softworks.”

Sugira: “I believe that today’s Japanese gaming industry has lost its touch, and we’d like to do something to change that.”

So bold claims and some interesting goals indeed! The eastern games market is already known for its fantastic RPG experiences, this combined with the quote about “Next gen technology” seems to be implying that Monolith soft may take a leaf out of the western way of design. Perhaps by using newer technologies sooner or using a continual game engine (Like the Unreal Engine) instead of building a new one for every game they produce is the way they may go but it would be nice to see a new unique IP utilising some of the Wii U’s features.

What do you think of this claim? Can they do it? Or do you think they shouldn’t try and change? Let us know in the comments below!
