Mojang reveal Minecraft’s sale figures for 2012

Who would have thought that a simple crafting and survival game would have been this popular? The hit game Minecraft has hit 15 million sales in 2012, with 1.2 million of those being in the gift-giving Christmas week alone.

The sales for 24th December to the 30th December alone were 1,273,855 and on Christmas Day sales hit 455,163 – a pretty awesome game to get for Christmas!

If you break the platform sales down they look like this:

– PC and Mac Sales: Throughout the year there were 4,177,843 copies sold, 70,808 of them being sold on Christmas Day.

– Xbox 360 Sales: The Xbox copy sold 100,416 copies on Christmas and has been bought a grand total of 5,002,370 times throughout the year!

– iOS and Android Sales: The Minecraft: Pocket Edition has had 5,899,727 sales during the year with 706,419 sold during the Christmas Week.

These figues make the mobile version the most popular throughout the year! They’re some pretty amazing sales figures for a game that started out so small and has since boomed into popular gaming culture and life. Hopefully 2013 will be just as good for the Mojang team and the game will continue to sell well.
