Microsoft have announced a limited-time offer for $100 for old consoles, including Sony’s Playstation 3 console.

Sources on NeoGAF have been notified of the offer via an email from Microsoft which reads:

“Ditch your PS3 and get $100 store credit towards Xbox One.

Here’s how: Visit your store, let us recycle your PS3, and get $100 of store credit towards the purchase of a new Xbox One.”

The offer is only valid in the United States and only available in Microsoft stores. It’s interesting that while the offer applies to Xbox 360 Slims and Elites, the email specifically mentions the PS3. Also, the usage of the word “ditch” shows that this is a new kind of aggression in the console war.

Of course, $100 off of the Xbox One makes the same price as a PS4 in the US, and any gamers who want to get rid of their PS3 for a next-gen console now have a level playing field in terms of price.

How successful this offer turns out to be in the long run remains to be seen, but anyone who wants to take advantage of this offer will obviously have a lot to consider.
