J.J. Abrams and Valve in talks for a Half Life or Portal Film

During the DICE summit today, Valve managing director Gabe Newell and director J.J. Abrams discussed the possibility of a new game and/or a movie based on Portal or Half-Life.

“There’s an idea we have for a game that we’d like to work with Valve on,” said Abrams. Gabe responded with “We’re super excited about that and we also want to talk about making movies, either a Portal movie or a Half-Life movie.”

“I love the experience of playing your games,” Abrams complimented Newell. Gabe then mentioned the scene from Cloverfield were a woman explodes calling it “one of my favourite moments in any of your movies.”

Then, after the 25 minute talk, the two men revealed the whole thing was actually just repeating a discussion that they had already had claiming that, “We reached the point that we decided to do more than talk.”

So, a Portal or Half-Life movie? A J.J. Abrams directed video game made by Valve? Exciting stuff!
