Far Cry Primal Announced For 2016

From tropical islands to war torn villages, the Far Cry series has travelled to a number of different places. Now for the first time, we are headed back through time to the land that time forgot, otherwise known as the Stone Age. Officially announced during a Ubisoft live-stream earlier today, Far Cry Primal is a spin off from the main Far Cry series that focuses on a prehistoric hunter by the name of Takkar. After a set of unknown circumstances, he has become lost in a ice filled world named Oros.

Far Cry Primal is set in 10,000 BC, so as you may expect, there is not a gun to be found in Takkar’s adventure. Melee weapons such as clubs and spears can be found and crafted, as well as a rudimentary bow and arrow as a ranged alternative. As well as exploring the landscape, you will need to hunt for your own provisions and fend off attacks from enemy tribes and wild animals such as sabertooth tigers. If you are interested in seeing how the Far Cry universe translates to it’s prehistoric setting, be sure to check out the trailer below.

Unlike Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, the game has not been designed as an expansion pack for a previous release, so it is likely to sell for a slightly higher price.  In order to not distract us from the Victorian antics of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, the release date for Far Cry Primal has been set as February 23rd 2016 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and March 2016 for Microsoft Windows PC’s. It is not known if a Mac or Linux port will be on the horizon, but it is good to see Ubisoft has got many of it’s bases covered.
