Video games haven’t always been the multi-million pound rocksteady industry that it is today. In the early 1980’s, it was almost gone for good because of a series of bad choices and critically panned releases. One of those games was the infamous E.T for the Atari 2600. Based on the movie released at around the same time in 1982, everyone who played the game agreed on how low the quality was. Atari was supposedly so ashamed of the game, that they were rumoured to have buried it in the deserts of New Mexico.

Thirty years after they were supposedly dumped, a group of determined excavators have proved the urban legend to be true. Pictures have been shown of the game cartridges, complete with manuals, boxes and leaflets that accompanied their original release. Whether this is a hoax has not been confirmed as of yet, but you can be sure that if it is the truth, it won’t be just E.T. that will be phoning home.
