Double Fine Re-Acquires Rights To Publish Its Games At Retail, Partners With Nordic Games

Double Fine Productions, the game studio headed by the fan-favourite gaming personality Tim Schafer, has acquired the rights to publish and distribute Costume Quest and Stacking from Nordic Games.

The two companies reached the agreement amicably, and have announced a new partnership. The deal will see Stacking, Costume Quest and Psychonauts sold at retail by Nordic Games on Windows and Mac in North America and Europe in the first half of 2014.

Nordic Games acquired the rights to Stacking and Costume Quest earlier in 2013 after the bankruptcy of the original publisher, THQ. Handing the rights back to the developer was something that Klemens Kreuzer, Managing Director at Nordic Games, was keen to respect:

“I just want to clarify, again, that we support the right of independent developers to control their own distribution, and we were pleased to have the opportunity to work with Double Fine.”

This marks the first time that Stacking, a puzzle game involving Russian dolls, and Costume Quest, a Halloween themed RPG, have been sold at retail. Psychonauts fans will be pleased to the cult classic come to stores once again.
