Dota 2 beats League of Legends in terms of most played PC game

Dota 2 has been named the most played PC game, beating the previous title-owner League of Legends.

League of Legends was given the title of most played PC game in Northern America and Europe in July of 2012 due to data collected by market analyst DFC Intelligence. New data from DFC and Xfirenow shows that Dota 2 was the most played PC game in North America and Europe for the first quarter of 2013, with League of Legends now occupying the second slot, one above worldwide reknown World of Warcraft. This data doesn’t include Asia.

However Riot Games have challenged the accuracy of this report, with League of Legends seeing “over 500,000 peak concurrent players every day on just the EU West shard”. This contrasts with the figures shown on Valve’s Steamgraph, which shows 325, 879 players as the all-time high for the Dota 2 beta.

VGU will keep you updated as things develop and we find out which really is the most played PC game in the West.
