Co-Op Half-Life Remake Will Be Free On Steam

In a typical example of Valve’s unprecedented community outreach and support, a multiplayer remake of Half-life will be made available on Steam.

Originally created as a mod for Half-Life almost 15 years ago, the modders behind “Sven Co-op” – a version of the game developed for co-operative play – today announced that their final release has been given the blessing from Valve to be released on Steam as a free download.

The game will not require an install or purchase of the original Half-Life game, as Sven Co-op runs on a custom standalone version of the original Half-Life engine. This includes Hammer, the level editor used to create Half-Life and its mods. The mod-turned-game will also take advantage of modern hardware and allow for “much larger and more detailed” levels.
