Atlus reveals God Mode, a dark new multiplayer for PSN, XBLA and PC.

If the name isn’t enough to pique your interest, how about the fact that it’s a dark and comical third-person shooter that combines elements of rpg with elements of a traditional shoot-em up?

Atlus, famous for the Persona and Shin Megami Tensei series, as well as the Game of Thrones game, have announced that God Mode will be a third-person shooter/rpg set in “a humorously dark view of the afterlife”. You play the part of a descendant of one of Mount Olympus’ gods who was made mortal when his family was banished. Each member is tasked wth battling though the Maze of Hades in the underworld to seek redemption and reclaim their place. Combining non-linear gameplay, fast and frantic shooting, hordes of enemies and stunning visuals, the game will have both a single player and extensive multiplayer, encompassing both online and offline (via LAN) modes for 1-4 players.

As if those details weren’t enough, the press release says there will be more than 11 weapons as well as a special ability fueled by Rage. You can choose from several different powers, ranging from offensive to defensive and even support, all of which can be upgraded. There are even in-game modifiers known as Tests of Faith which alter the gameplay on the fly, which give syou a unique experience every game.

The press release praises the game as “a high quality product” that will be delivered at a price that will “appeal to a wide range of gamers”. If this game follows suit from their previous ones then it’s a promise they can certainly aim to deliver on. God Mode is set for a North America release early 2013 for Playstation Network, Xbox Live Arcade and PC for $9.99 (about £6.18 in Europe) so make sure you check it out! VGU will keep you up to date with any new updates or news that come out, and while you’re waiting make sure you check out the trailer.
