Amplitude Returns Today For PS4

Although music rhythm games have slipped out of the public eye in recent years, one of the most popular games from the PlayStation 2 has officially been rebooted, thanks to the original creators of the franchise and a healthy dose of Kickstarter funding. This new version of Amplitude is now available for the PlayStation 4 as a digital exclusive through the PlayStation Store, at the very reasonable price point of £19.99.

The main aim of Amplitude is to travel along a digital highway, ensuring that you hit all the beats along the way for each of the different elements of the song. Unlike it’s later success Rock Band, you control Guitar, Bass, Vocals and other elements at once, and after you have hit a certain number of notes, that specific section will play automatically for a brief period of time. If you do not like the highway approach, then you will be pleased to learn that a FreQ Mode is available, providing the tunnel experience that was included in Frequency, the first game in Harmonix’s Amplitude franchise.

Along with several free play and offline multiplayer modes, a campaign mode has been made available for the first time in the series. According to Harmonix, this takes the form of a concept album with sci-fi elements, and includes a continuous narrative throughout each of the songs available. Speaking of the soundtrack, it has been confirmed that Harmonix’s own music team plays a major role, as well as several special guest composers from games such as Transistor, Minecraft and Crypt of the Necrodancer, as well as selected Kickstarter backers and developers from Lab Zero and Insomnaic Games. Each track has online leaderboards, so you can test your skills with everyone you know, as well as musical strangers.
