American McGee Cancels OZombie Kickstarter

by on July 15, 2013

In update 19 of the OZombie Kickstarter campaign page, American McGee lists two reasons why this trip back to OZ has been cut short:

1) He wants to start a campaign for the Alice film rights since the window to obtain them is very small.

2) The OZ campaign was not looking to reach its goal as it was not trending as originally hoped.

Don’t worry though, if you liked the sound of OZombie there is still hope:

“For Oz, we can always launch another campaign in the future. On the other hand, the Alice film rights are only within reach during a rapidly closing window of opportunity. We’ll sacrifice Oz today in order to have a real chance with Alice.”

This is sad news in a way. I, for one, was looking forward to OZombie but if American can turn his attention to Alice now for some films (and more) thus keeping the world fresh and exciting, then the Kickstarter may have been worth giving up.

But what do you think? Did you like OZombie? Or do you think American has done the right thing? Let us know what you think below.
