In a somewhat odd naming choice, Electronic Arts have confirmed Battlefield 1 is the next game to enter the prestigious Battlefield franchise. Set in World War 1, there won’t be a big change from the tried and tested formula of focusing on multiplayer with 64-player battles taking place in historic locations. The single player campaign is also confirmed to feature the perspectives of multiple different characters in an alternate timeline.

The release date is confirmed for October 21, however players who purchase the ‘Early Enlister’ edition will be able to play from October 18. The game will also be on display at EA Play in June alongside pre-release opportunities for Battlefield Insider and Origin Access members.
