The huge success of last years blockbuster title, The Last Of Us, has paved way for much more in terms of the games cannon. With the new DLC, named Left Behind, on it’s way just in just under a week, exploring more of Ellie’s story line, it is already clear to see that the universe in which The Last Of Us is set, is an expansive one.

The Last Of Us’s creative director and writer, Neil Druckmann has revealed in an interview with Eurogamer that Naughty Dog are thinking about where to go next, and that it’s a choice between trying out an original title, or making a follow up game to a previous game. “We have started brainstorming some stuff. To be honest, some of them are sequel ideas, and some of them are brand new IP – we’ve spent the last few weeks brainstorming new IP. So we have to get some good steps and see… It’s kind of like how we approached Left Behind. Can we tell people a story that’s really worth telling, and that’s not repeating itself? And if we can’t, where can we get inspired – what is something that’s really going to challenge us, and push storytelling in this medium forward?”

Previously, rumours had been circulating that The Last Of Us 2 was already in development, but that would seem to not be true after Neil Druckmann’s info leak, it would appear that they are still planning the next big move. There has also been talk of a next-gen port of The Last Of Us, and whether it would be a worth while endeavor “We have such limited resources, and it’s a question of where you put the resources”. For now the future of The Last Of Us, looks to be optimistically unclear.
